Thanks for stopping by! I’m excited to shine the spotlight on a few Whidbey Island businesses with this latest edition of my Local Lift series. Get to know Sand + Stone (a brand new boutique in Oak Harbor), Mailliard’s Landing Nursery (a longtime Whidbey Island mainstay), and The BBQ Joint (a popular restaurant with the most delicious menu!).
I love all things Whidbey, and this Local Lift series is something I started at the beginning of Covid-19. So many of our treasured local and independent businesses faced incredible challenges during this time, and I wanted to do something to give small businesses a boost.
For each Local Lift, I purchase gift cards to the featured businesses to give away to the community. And at the same time, I get to show off Whidbey Island businesses that I love!

The BBQ Joint
Located at 601 NE Midway Blvd, Oak Harbor, WA 98277, The BBQ Joint on Whidbey Island is a local favorite for a reason! Their website says it all: “Enjoy Southern BBQ Hospitality… And Real Sweet Tea” and these are just a couple of the reasons why people go back again and again. Since 2006, The BBQ Joint has been making their own rubs and sauces, side dishes, cornbread, and desserts, and buying the best meat available to smoke over hickory for up to 15 hours. They put a great deal of care into everything on their menu. So it’s not a surprise that they’ve been voted The Best of Whidbey since 2007!
Meats include Memphis ribs, brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and chicken, and sides like honey cornbread, baked beans, cole slaw, macaroni, and potato salad. And be sure to ask about what homemade desserts are available! Oh—and they also are ready to cater your next event.
